FULLER JONES INSTITUTE PROVIDES ITS ASSOCIATES WITH UNIQUE INSTRUCTION AND PERSONAL MENTORING IN THE APPLICATION OF ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE SKILLS
Why is it time for a new instructional model for the 'Pursuit of Excellence'?
At the core of all formal education, of all instruction, is the notion that "there is something worth learning today that will enable me to better meet tomorrow's challenges." We at the Fuller Jones Institute believe in the incredible power and importance of life-long learning and that "the world is changed one mind at a time through the pursuit of excellence."
Traditionally, education has been delivered in 'topical packets' organized and presented as a component of a well established insular discipline, whether it be a business school, college of engineering, or psychology department.
Yet as the world has grown more complex the often repeated 'truths' supplied by traditional educational disciplines have seemed less and less satisfactory to the evolving needs of the community and the work place. The answer to the now pressing society-wide question "how can we serve more better for less faster?" is simply not found in the lectures or textbooks of any traditional university department.
For those driven by the pursuit of excellence in the work place, the intuitive quest is to be an exceptional eclectic - to take the best from all the existing disciplines and available systems in order to discern the surest path to consistently superior individual and collective results.
We at Fuller Jones Institute have spent years studying and participating in the pursuit of excellence at world class organizations. In the process we have identified the key ingredients that work time and again to ensure performance excellence for organizations large and small, labor and capital extensive. The key ingredients are indeed interdisciplinary and eclectic.
A critical lesson we have learned along the way is that "everything happens in a context." What constitutes "organizational excellence" is by definition "organization-specific." In order to define the appropriate PERFORMANCE ARCHITECTURE for any organization, it is essential to first understand an organization relative to its own unique circumstances.
Fuller Jones Institute's Behavior-Based Performance Excellence (BBPE) provides an amazingly simple and practical way to rapidly assess an organization's unique 'as is state' and then set a clear path towards the achievement of organizational excellence. There are no tricks - just powerful, interdisciplinary insights derived by careful study and critical lessons gleaned through years of practice.
Another critical lesson is "the knowledge that works is the knowledge that is applied." At the Fuller Jones Institute imparting knowledge and keen insights is just the start. We believe that it is essential that each practitioner have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge in a meaningful way with the assistance of a highly experienced mentor.
Mentoring - personal, context-specific interaction and feedback - is an integral dimension of the Fuller Jones Institute's behavior-based instructional experience. As you will see, our commitment to mentoring is just one aspect of the Fuller Jones Institute's BBPE experience that sets it completely apart from the traditional university's delivery of 'topical packets.'
Fuller Jones Institute's instructional program is Behavior-Based Performance Excellence is comprised of five certification levels. Taken individually or in series, the certification elements provide a practitioner with the interdisciplinary concepts, tools, and experience necessary to systematically pursue excellence at the process, function, organization-wide, industry/sector, and advanced topic levels.
Each level of certification consists of 40 hours of instruction, application and mentoring. The 40 hours are organized into 5 topical areas - Performance Architecture, Process Management, Line of Sight, Process Design & Improvement, and Putting it All Together - eighth one-hour lessons per topics.
Before embarking on any course of instruction, each prospective Associate of the Fuller Jones Institute is invited to discuss their individual background, aspirations, and learning objectives on-on-one with a Fuller Jones Institute mentor.
We do everything possible to ensure the BBPE instructional experience is designed to meet the specific needs of each of our Associates. Then we go to work providing the instruction, tools, and experience to meet the objective. A mentor is there to help throughout the process. It is all part of an instructional experience simply second to none in the Pursuit of Excellence.
What is covered in the Behavior-Based Performance Excellence curriculum?
There is a formula for excellence at the individual work team, and organizational levels and we have all seen it in practice many times over. The attainment of excellence, in any pursuit, requires a mastery of the fundamentals, the ability to consistently execute at the highest level of performance, and a clear understanding of - and commitment to - the context in which one operates.
Mastery of the fundamentals, superior execution, and contextual alignment - we at the Fuller Jones Institute refer to these three essential elements of organizational excellence as PROCESS DESIGN & IMPROVEMENT, PROCESS MANAGEMENT, and LINE OF SIGHT. And we call our radically simple approach to ensuring success in each of these three vital areas BEHAVIOR-BASED PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE (BBPE).
Dr. Howard Fuller's IT'S ALL HERE: The Complete Guide to Organizational Excellence serves as the core text for the Fuller Jones Institute's Behavior-Based Performance Excellence instructional program and five levels of certification. Insights come quickly followed immediately by the opportunity to apply and receive personal feedback on situations specific to each Associate.
Along the way you will find:
The key to sustainable organizational excellence is empowering each individual contributor and work team to efficiently and effectively carry out their essential work activities. We at the Fuller Jones Institute have spent our careers studying the 'inner workings of processes' and the various methods to rapidly identify, prioritize, and address process issues. We will be showing you the means to successfully imbed continuous improvement into operations.
In imparting the BBPE approach, we start by discussing why it is essential to 'stop the pain' by identifying and addressing an organization's most pressing process issues before moving to a broader engagement. We develop the case for preparing a 'process family tree' as a superior means to understand the relationship and value of an organization's 'as is state' processes.
Using the radically simple and practical process improvement methods encapsulated within BBPE, we can provide a proven roadmap for not only tackling individual process improvement efforts but permanently changing your problem solving perspective.
If our objective is to assist you in understanding and pursuing workplace excellence, a key question is "what constitutes organizational excellence?" At the Fuller Jones Institute we draw upon internationally recognized performance criteria to develop a comprehensive, robust framework for assessing organizational performance and systematically pursuing organizational excellence. Using this framework ensures that all of the essential characteristics and behaviors of superior organizations are brought to the table. As an integral component of the BBPE instruction, we impart the art and science of tailoring performance excellence criteria to meet specific needs of an organization.
We teach how to draw upon an organization's existing documentation (e.g. annual reports, policies and procedures, etc.) to prepare an 'as is state profile' and how to use this custom profile to create a basis for a host of immediate, mid-term, and long-term benefits including the development of enhanced organization-specific metrics.
'Alignment of purpose' has been described as 'the missing ingredient' by more than one organization that has failed to achieve excellence. The achievement of 'Line of Sight' among an organization's numerous contributors and stakeholders does not come by chance. There is as much art as a science to achieving 'a shared vision, shared commitment, shared effort, and shared outcome' as there is to the formulation of organization-specific Process Management and Process Design & Improvement programs.
We at the Fuller Jones Institute have come to fully appreciate how essential this particular ingredient is to the pursuit of organizational excellence and, in turn, have studied the most successful strategies and techniques of the organizations that have mastered 'Line of Sight.'
During the course of instruction we share the ready means to establish for each employee, work team, supplier, and stakeholder 'a clear connection' with an organization's strategic objectives. We demonstrate how an 'organization-specific strength of relationship analysis' can create the basis for a host of immediate, mid-term, and long-term benefits.
Generally, we recommend our Associates begin with the Process-Specific BBPE Certification Program. Over the course of 40 hours of instruction, application, and mentoring Associates develop a powerful skill and tool kit in Performance Architecture, Process Management (Macro-Processes), Line of Sight, Process Design & Improvement (Micro-Processes), and Putting it All Together.
Four additional BBPE Instructional Programs are available covering Function-Specific, Organization-wide, Industry/Sector, and Advanced Topics leading to Certification at the Master, Fellow, Post Grad, and Distinguished Scholar levels.
Each of Fuller Jones Institute's BBPE Certification Programs include 40 hours of Associate-specific instruction, application, and mentoring that provides an educational experience second to none.
